Now Recruiting for the 2019 Philadelphia Watershed Stewardship Program!
LandHealth Institute and The Fairmount Park Conservancy are teaming up with The Philadelphia Water Department to present another year of our innovative Philadelphia Watershed Stewardship Program (PWS)
This program is an opportunity for High-School age youth from Philadelphia to learn outside. Students will come to understand the natural cycles our city is a part of, while also exploring its green spaces and meeting its plants, animals, creeks, and rivers. LandHealth's founder, Scott Quitel, will lead a ten week training in urban and natural water cycles, geology, history, and ecology. Students will also learn public speaking and keep field journals. This program works particularly closely with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation's Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center.
After training, the Stewards will put this knowledge to work for the people in a variety of community engagement projects. They'll also get a chance to participate in fun activities like kayaking, urban cycling, fishing, and hiking.
Our stewards even get a stipend of up to $590, contingent upon attendance.
The Philadelphia Water Department partners with LandHealth Institute and The Fairmount Park Conservancy to bring Philadelphia this program as part of the Green Cities, Clean Waters initiative. This widely hailed program uses green infrastructure to reduce stormwater runoff and protect our water. PWS stewards help educate the rest of us so we can work together to keep our city and it's waters healthy.
