Royal Fern (Osmunda regalis)

Overview:

Osmunda regalis or the Royal Fern is a 4-6' tall deciduous fern featuring broad fronds with large alternating leaflets. In the autumn, fronds may turn yellow-brown. The spores are located in the brown, fertile fronds. The plant tolerates deer, clay, and heavy shade.

 

Care:

Plant in rich, moist, humusy and acidic soils in partial shade. Royal Ferns can tolerate full sun, but require consistent moisture.
