LandHealth Institute hosts an urban native plant nursery right next to parkside avenue. In addition to growing native plants for both sale and our own projects, we use this greenhouse for a variety of educational programming.
One program of which we’re particularly proud is our partnership with SpArc Philadelphia.
SpArc Philadelphia is an organization which advocates for and with people with disabilities. Participants in SpArc's programs have all sorts of different levels of independence, some have jobs, and some require constant one-to-one support and are largely non-verbal.
LHI provides activites for SpArc participants engaged in community programing, who come visit our location twice a week in spring, summer, and fall.
We work hard to provide a welcoming and engaging experience for our friends from SpArc. Together we water the plants, transfer plants to larger pots, and sometimes even create art projects. We also tend a small produce garden growing fresh healthy snacks. No matter what we do, spending time with the Spark participants, and getting to participate in the enjoyment they get from spending time outside, always makes the day worthwhile.
