Cities are ecosystems of the human habitat, and urban exploration prompts the discovery of this emerging ecosystem. Wherever you find yourself in the city, the land around you is bustling with a complex system of plants, mammals, birds, bugs, and more. Throughout my own explorations of Philadelphia, I have captured some of these natural spaces with my phone camera. The beauty of an oak tree or a blue jay in any random vacant lot is a delightful, but often ignored, observation. Learning to simply notice the nature around us makes every outdoor journey an adventure.
